Hello! I’m Jenny Lewis, and I have been writing all of my career as a lawyer, but my most creative writing began when I retired. The poems just began to flow in. In 2022, I self-published my first children’s book, Duma’s Song and from there more children’s books began to flow in. Since then, I’ve written three more and have a novel in progress as well. Writing lights my soul and allows me to share the stories of my life and my experiences. It’s healing too, helping me work through the challenges of my life and share my lessons.

I have taught art and writing to kids and adults for 7 years through programs at the Birmingham Museum of Art, UAB ArtPlay, InToto Arts and Alabama Arts Alliance.

Writing is a vehicle for self-expression, confidence. When you know your voice matters your life changes. I watch my students light up and follow new ideas and possibilities because they had the experience of being seen and appreciated for who they are.

“I grew with the other class of writers. All levels are supported along the way. The atmosphere is very positive, even those with the tiniest voices begging to be written bloom here. I did not realize how shy I am about this process. I am fine on my own, and so challenged to allow others to be a part of this for me. Because I joined, I have more insight to deeper reasons for telling my story(ies).”

What my Clients Say:

“I have learned that it’s okay for me to let my creative out. That it’s okay for me to share my story. That this is really hard work and that I can do it. ”

—Steve

“I now know that I can do big things. I feel excited about what’s to come. I realize that this book idea can be a reality. I need more creativity and peacefulness in my life. The time to slow down and decompress has allowed me the space and permission to be creative. ”

— Annie

“Taking time to write took me out of a box I unknowingly put myself in. I learned that the process I thought I needed to write and be creative wasn’t necessary. I went into this only really concerned about the technical ignoring the creative. This class helped me remember the love I have for writing and to focus on connecting to my story.”
